Fascinatingly, few people including most native plant enthusiasts, have heard of, or grown the amazing Buckwheat relative, Polygonella polygama. October flower, as it's better know n, is a native perennial that naturally occurs from Virginia south to Florida and west to Texas in dry, acidic sandy soils. The 2' tall, upright, thin, woody stems are clothed with needle-thin foliage that scarcely garners a glance from visitors until early October, when it explodes into a stunning cluster of tiny white flowers. In addition to being attractive to humans, it's also fabulous for native bee populations. Sandy soils, or those which have been ammended with small gravel will give the best results. Show more
