These molecules are highly branched, and the high content of hydroxyl groups leads to very good solubility in aqueous media. Polysucrose behaves as an ideal neutral sphere and displays excellent biocompatibility. It does not contain any ionized groups, so it is compatible under physiological conditions. However, it is more sensitive to acid than dextran, so care must be taken when working under acidic pH conditions.
