When used with a biological filter, PondMAX UV Clarifiers will restore clarity and healthy conditions to your pond or aquarium. Features a safety shut-off switch for globe replacement. The PondMax UV Clarifier uses the power of ultraviolet light to kill cellular algae in ponds and water gardens. The gallon ratings below assume a pond with fish in full sun, and the flow figure is the most each model is meant to handle. All five run on 120V. Model Max Pond Size (gal, with fish, full sun) Recommended Max Flow (GPH) Hose-Tail Sizes UVC9W 1,000 600 1/2, 3/4, 1 in UVC18W 2,000 1,200 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 in UVC24W 2,700 1,800 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 in UVC36W 4,000 2,400 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 in UVC60W 6,000 3,000 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 in INSTALLATION This unit lives beside the pond, never in it, and it should only run with water moving through it. Plumb it in-line after a running pump, then send the water on to your filter or straight back to the pond. Use kink-free hose on both sides and clamp every connection. Cut the stepped hose tails down to your hose size before you thread them on. Pick a protected spot that can't flood, at least 6 ft (2 m) back from the water's edge. On the 24W, 36W and 60W you get two outlet positions, which makes it easier to fit your plumbing. Close off the one you don't use with the cap. It works as a UV stage on its own, or paired with a pressure filter or a gravity filter. Leave a drip loop in the power cord so runoff can't follow it into the outlet. Run it from a GFCI-protected outlet rated to trip at 30 mA or less. LAMP AND QUARTZ CARE Plan on a new UV-C lamp every 5,000 to 6,000 hours of running time. Keep the quartz tube clean too, because mineral scale on the glass cuts down how much UV gets through to the water. Unplug the unit first, then wash the tube with a mild glass detergent and nothing that can scratch it. Parts you replace as routine maintenance count as consumables, and the warranty doesn't cover them. If the water turns cloudy again, look at three things: a dirty quartz tube, a worn-out lamp, or a clarifier that may not be the right size for your pond. The first two are covered above. If you suspect the size, have a qualified installation technician check it. Our PondMAX replacement lamps and quartz sleeves listing has quartz tubes for all five sizes, and UV-C lamps for the 9W and 60W only. WINTER Take it out of service once the water and air drop below 41°F (5°C), and store it somewhere it won't freeze. View PondMax UV Instruction Manual here (PDF)
