95 Points | The Wine Advocate, William Kelley Opening in the glass with aromas of cherries, strawberries and raspberries mingled with peonies and licorice, Ponsot's 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is full-bodied, layered and velvety, with a broad attack that segues into a deep, concentrated mid-palate framed by ripe tannins and lively acids. This has turned out very well indeed. The 2020 vintage at Domaine Ponsot marks the first time in history that this estate has begun the harvest in the month of August. Coming in at between 13.5% and 14% alcohol, these are powerful, concentrated Burgundies with deep, saturated hues, vibrant acids and serious musculature, and they will demand some bottle age. The 2019s, revisited from bottle, are also rich, lavish wines, bursting with fruit that almost conceals serious structure that will also reward patience.
