We often treat our spiritual journey as if we are buying a new car—excited, prepared, ready to drive off and enjoy it. But it doesn’t take long before we’re surprised by the realit y: maintenance is required, parts wear down, things break, potholes appear, and not everyone on the road drives the way we expect. In a similar way, we can approach following Jesus, expecting a smooth ride—so when we encounter suffering, resistance, or difficulty in our growth, it feels confusing and discouraging.
