This portrait of Dave Grohl is a tribute to one of my favorite musicians and one of the most influential figures in modern rock. As the frontman of Foo Fighters and former drummer for Nirvana, Dave Grohl has helped shape the soundtrack of my life for decades. His passion, energy, and authenticity are a big part of what inspired me to create this piece. Like all of my portraits, this artwork was created using nothing more than a standard #2 pencil and the grid method — a technique I originally learned in 4th grade summer school and later refined after being inspired by the work of Chuck Close. Each square was carefully drawn by hand, slowly building the portrait piece by piece until the full image came to life. The grid method allows me to focus on precision and realism while keeping the process grounded in simple tools.
