The R-2800 is a double-row, 18-cylinder, air-cooled radial engine. It has a displacement of 2,804 cubic inches and was initially designed to deliver around 2,000 horsepower. However, subsequent variants and improvements increased its power output to over 2,800 horsepower. The development of the R-2800 engine began in the 1930s, and it first flew in 1939. It was primarily produced by Pratt & Whitney, an American aerospace manufacturer.
