Who it is forFor the high school grades in the title. This one assumes Algebra II is done, here or anywhere else. Your student is ready if they can work with functions and solve a quadratic without help. Calculus comes after it. For the student headed toward a science or engineering major. If you're not sure where your student belongs, email [email protected] and we'll help you place them. What your child will actually doTransform the graph of a function and predict the result before drawing it. Work with the unit circle to find the sine and cosine of common angles. Solve right-triangle problems with trigonometry. Model growth and decay with exponential functions. Work problems at the board and defend each step. What they will be able to do by the endTransform a function's graph and explain each change. Use the unit circle to find the sine and cosine of common angles. Solve a right-triangle problem with trigonometry. Model a real situation with an exponential function. Explain their reasoning in writing. The shape of the session55 minutes, once a week, for eight meetings. No more than four children. Each session opens with a problem, moves to work at the board, and closes with a short check. Weekly work is set between sessions, because one hour a week cannot carry a full Pre-Calculus course on its own. What you need to sendA notebook, pencils and a scientific calculator. Supplies are included this fall. The teacher sets any work at home. This class adds to your own math instruction at home and does not replace it.What comes homeEvery worked problem set and written check, in your student's handwriting, with their written explanations. How this fits your Virginia requirementsHexagon Academy does not issue grades, credits, transcripts or a diploma. Anything your child brings home from this class is yours to keep. Taking this class does not change what you file with your school division or when you file it. If you home instruct under Virginia's home instruction law, the notice of intent and any evidence of progress stay yours to file, on the dates that law sets. What this class is notIt does not carry a high school credit or appear on any transcript, because Hexagon Academy issues neither. If your student needs Pre-Calculus on a transcript, that credit comes from you as the home instructor or from an accredited provider, not from us. On its own, one hour a week will not cover a year of Pre-Calculus. It is not one-on-one tutoring.
