Description Our bioactive Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG), also known as Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin (eCG), is a complex 43–63 kda glycoprotein purified from the serum of pregnant mares. It is provided as a sterile-filtered lyophilized powder. Application Our PMSG hormone and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) are commonly used in superovulation protocols for the production of genetically modified laboratory animals, such as genetically engineered mouse models (GEMM) by pronuclear microinjection (transgenic mouse), targeted mutations through CRISPR-Cas9 methods, and embryonic stem (ES) cell-based gene targeting to produce "knockout" mice. PMSG also has applications with a variety of other species; for example, it may be used in the generation of Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis eggs or embryos for use in experimental model systems. Reconstitution We recommend that lyophilized PMSG is reconstituted in sterile 18M-cm H2O at a concentration of 1000 IU/ml, which can then be further diluted into other aqueous solutions. PMSG hormone is a placental glycoprotein comprised of alpha and beta subunits produced from the serum of pregnant mares. PMSG is secreted from endometrial cups within the pregnant mare uterus aging from 40 to 130 days into their maturation, and once extracted, it can be used to promote artificial estrus in female animals. These assemblies produce PMSG hormone to induce a mare's ovarian and reproductive structures. PMSG can induce the growth of follicles by ovaries and results in ovulation. PMSG hormone has a bioactive half-life of about 4 days in species other than horses. The extended biological activity can cause ovarian stimulation and ovulation and is often used in superovulation protocols. PMSG is more likely to be used than other pituitary hormones due to the extended circulatory half-life. PMSG solely exhibits luteinizing hormone (LH) like activity, however, in other animal classes gonadotropin has follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and LH-like activity.
