Pres is an impromptu gathering of unidentified tapes apparently taped by Lester Young in his later years. All Young recordings possess value, but this is certainly not one of his m ost noteworthy productions. His execution is rough and inconsistent, and the same is true for his accompaniment. Additionally, the tapes are hissy and degraded, making it a difficult listen. Furthermore, the lack of information concerning the origin of these sessions is particularly bothersome. With this in mind, only die-hard Pres enthusiasts -- the kind who appreciate a bit of detective work -- should pursue this release. Show more
