My paintings explore the unconscious dreams, desires and fantasies at play beneath the surface of our everyday lives. The images depict moments or scenarios of heightened significa nce or emotion. The work varies from scenarios where fantasy and reality combine, often focusing on dreamlike scenarios such as weddings, prom nights, first dates and the like. This painting is based on an image of a group of young women at a graduation ball from the 1980s. I’m interested in the ritualistic elements of these milestone moments, the dress, the materiality of the fabric, the ceremony of the event. Show more
