PreVent Auto is a ready-to-use, non-persistent insecticidal aerosol designed for use in an automatic aerosol dispenser. It is suitable for application in food handling and preparation areas, industrial kitchens, food storage facilities, public hygiene and nuisance insect control, as well as in animal husbandry settings such as kennels, stables, catteries, barns, byres, milking parlours, and veterinary practices. PreVent Auto effectively knocks down and kills insects including mosquitoes, midges, sandflies, horseflies, cleggs, wasps, hornets, moths, houseflies, and bluebottle flies. It is enhanced with piperonyl butoxide (PBO), which boosts its effectiveness and prevents insects from developing natural resistance. Pyrethrins are natural substance purified from chrysanthemum flowers. Chrysanthemum flowers have been available in Europe for over 150 years and in their powdered form were used as louse and flea powders. It is only in the last 50 years that liquid concentrates for public health pest control have appeared. Pyrethrins cause rapid knockdown of insects followed shortly by death. The mode of action is by contact action the toxic effect is caused by the binding of pyrethrins to sodium channels which inhibits the insect’s nervous system. This mode of action leads to a broad-spectrum of insecticidal activity, and due to the non-persistence of the active ingredient in the environment, insect resistance is very rare.
