CAT5 cables are supplied by others because of its cheap cost and also because of a lack of access to genuine BT cable. Broadband suppliers have spent years developing modems that have been optimised to use Solid Core Copper Twisted Pair Telephone Cable. Third-party modem suppliers have designed their devices to use this standard for all ADSL / ADSL2 and Fibre connections. Your Broadband Modem achieves its best possible results when there is some consistency on the supply side. Not a mix of cables with different specifications and intended uses.
