Hand-hammered copper spittoon with swing handle and rolled rim. This utilitarian vessel features a deeply patinated surface and visibly hand-hammered construction, characteristic o f late 19th-century American craftsmanship. Designed for public or domestic use, its bulbous body and weighted base helped prevent tipping, while the generous flared mouth allowed for easy aim. The forged iron bail handle, still securely riveted, hints at dual-purpose use-perhaps doubling as a small cauldron or kettle when needed. A rugged, honest object from a time when form followed function and copper was king in everyday wares.
