If needed, wet down a soft rag or paper towel, make sure the rag/towel is damp, not soaking wet, and wipe down the patch. A soft brush like a toothbrush can get into crevices. Do not use soap on the patch. To clean the cap...use a soft brush, like an old toothbrush, wet area you want to be cleaned ( around the sweatband). Wet brush and gently dip into clothing detergent. Gently scrub the cap area you want to be cleaned. Rinse brush clean of detergent and gently scrub cap again to get rid of detergent residue on the cap.
