Primula Viallii Primula vialii (Vial’s primrose) is a distinctive candelabra primula prized for its striking bicolour flower spikes: tight crimson buds opening from the tip down to soft lilac‑purple, creating elegant poker-like blooms in early to mid-summer. Ideal for damp borders, bog gardens and pond margins in Ireland, it thrives in moist, humus-rich, fertile soil in sun or light shade, forming fresh green rosettes and upright flowering stems to around 45–60cm. Keep the soil consistently moist in the growing season, mulch to conserve moisture, and avoid drying out or stagnant winter waterlogging. Deadhead spent spikes to encourage a tidy display; plants establish at an average rate and suit waterside and woodland-edge plantings.
