Pro-Ject’s plug-and-play deck: cartridge fitted, tracking force set, anti-skate set, dust cover on. Take it out of the box, drop the belt over the pulley, plug it in. The E1 exists to remove every excuse for not owning a real turntable. It arrives with an Audio-Technica AT3600L moving-magnet already mounted and aligned, the tracking force already set and the anti-skate already set. Setup is fitting the platter, looping the silicone belt over the motor pulley and plugging in the power supply. There is no counterweight to balance and no protractor to squint at. What you are getting underneath that convenience is a genuine Pro-Ject: an 8.6-inch aluminium tonearm, a 300mm platter, an isolated belt-driven motor and electronic speed change between 33 and 45rpm. The platter here is ABS polymer with anti-resonant ridges moulded into the underside rather than the metal used further up the range, and the published wow and flutter of ±0.25% at 33rpm reflects that — this is the entry point, and the numbers are honest about it. Note that Pro-Ject sells the E1 in three configurations. The plain E1, listed here, has no phono stage and no Bluetooth — you will need a phono input on your amplifier or a separate phono stage, and we sell several. The E1 Phono adds a switchable built-in MM preamp and the E1 BT adds a Bluetooth transmitter. Pro-Ject has also since introduced an E1.2, which is a different and better-specified deck with a Pro-Ject Pick it MM E cartridge and a 730g aluminium platter; it is not the same product as the E1 listed here.
