Profane #22 There is something slightly divine and prophetic about this performance, as if it were a desire to distance oneself from harsh reality, to invent a world where believin g, wanting to believe, and consciously dreaming are acts of creation and hope. Leading the troupe, Sophie Perez opens this whimsical ball by evoking the extravagances of the Zerep company she founded, which parades a form of occult power on stage to awaken our own. She passes the invisible baton to creators possessed by tarot and oracles: Claudio Parentela, a multi-talented artist from Calabria, enjoys, among a thousand other things, sketching the lines of force in these card decks, whilst the duo of free-spirited dancers, Barbara Villesange and Vincent Fournoux, conceive a tarot of movement, centred on the dynamics of bodies and minds. Here, a painting of the Virgin Mary has a profound effect on the psyche of a self-taught artist, Roger Lorance; elsewhere, mystical drawings and sculptures as intricate as ex-votos fill Thierry Coudert’s collection in his Limousin home; there, a fairy godmother named Jennifer Rident bends over the dreamlike cradle of bees, and the genius of Marc Danchin works to reveal the heart of oil lamps... The ingredients seem to be in place for the wandering mind, quick to curiosity, to let itself be carried away. We could even turn it into a game.
