Located just south of Tokyo, Izu Oshima offers a rare combination of volcanic landscapes, coastal beauty, and vibrant island culture. In this 3-day, 2-night residential program, students will embrace the spirit of exploration as they journey across land and sea. The adventure begins with a night ferry voyage, sailing away from the lights of Tokyo toward the open ocean. Upon arrival, participants will explore the island’s diverse terrain through cycling along the Sunset Palm Line, tracing the coastline where the Pacific horizon stretches endlessly. During the stay, students can choose between a scenic island tour by car or hands-on cultural workshops such as camellia oil pressing and Bekkō sushi making, offering two distinct ways to experience Oshima’s nature and traditions. The program culminates with a trek to Mt. Mihara’s volcanic crater, where participants will walk across dramatic lava fields and witness the island’s dynamic geological history up close — an unforgettable highlight of this island adventure.
