Protos is a German-engineered PPE brand built specifically around the integral helmet concept — combining head, hearing and face protection into one snag-free unit rather than three separate items strapped together. That integration is what sets it apart from budget forestry helmets, which typically bolt on ear defenders and visors as afterthoughts. Certified Protection Explained EN 397 is the industrial safety helmet standard, testing impact and penetration resistance. EN 352-3 covers the integrated ear defenders, confirming noise attenuation performance for helmet-mounted hearing protection. EN 1731 certifies the mesh visor for eye and face impact resistance. Together, these three standards mean every part of the integral system — shell, ears and face — has been independently tested, not just the helmet shell alone. No. The Forest model has no chin strap and can't be retrospectively fitted with one, so it's not suitable for climbing — see the PROTOS Integral Arborist Helmet instead. What's included in the integral system? The helmet, mesh visor and ear defenders come as one integrated unit rather than separate items you assemble yourself. Can I replace individual parts? Yes. The visor, hearing protection and padding are all individually replaceable, so you don't need to buy a whole new helmet when one part wears out. What does EN 352-3 mean? It's the European standard for helmet-mounted hearing protection, confirming the integrated ear defenders meet certified noise attenuation performance. How do I keep the helmet hygienic? Clean regularly with mild soap and water, and store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to extend its lifespan.
