Psidium guyanense seeds grow into the Guyana guava — an evergreen tree or shrub native to the tropical biome of the Guiana Shield and adjacent Amazonian South America (Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Venezuela, northern Brazil). Described by Pers. (Christiaan Hendrik Persoon, 1761–1836, South African-born Dutch botanist). The epithet guyanense means 'from Guyana', referring to the Guiana region of northern South America. One of several wild guava species from the extraordinarily biodiverse Guiana Shield region, one of the oldest geological formations on earth and a hotspot of South American biodiversity.
