Original vintage post-World War Two map poster for Northumberland in north east England featuring a colourful design by Ernest Costain Clegg (1876-1954) of the ceremonial county with illustrations of notable landmarks and tourist locations including the historic Alnwick Castle, Lindisfarne monastery ruins, Bamburgh Castle, the City of Newcastle and the ancient AD122-126 Hadrian's Wall, the battleship HMS King George VI at sea, the bird sanctuary on the Farne Islands, a Pele defence tower and Bondager landworker, as well as insignias and coats of arms, notable historical figures including George Stephenson (1781-1848), Sir Charles Parsons (1854-1931), Grace Darling (1815-1842) and Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837-1909), British farms, industry, agriculture and food including barley, wheat, oats, cheviot sheep, cattle and blackface mountain sheep, coal, lead and witherite mines, and a quote by Winston Churchill dated 21 march 1943 - Religion has been a rock in the life and character of the British people, upon which they have built their hopes and cast their cares - with roads, castles, trees, rivers and a Scale of Miles at the bottom.
