The Puffin Crank is a 36mm big-bodied crankbait built for targeting big fish. Made by Outback Bream Baits, it is designed for anglers who want a lure with a bold profile. Its large square-cut bib gets the bait down to up to 2.2 m. It is made for maximum sand/mud disturbance. The puffin crank will 'bib-suspend'. The tip of the bib will sit on the sand with the lure's head facing down and tail up. This means you have full hook exposure. It also helps to prevent picking up weed or snagging the bottom. The lure features three free-range rattle beads. They are noisy in the hand. However, this bait was designed to be fished ultra-slow. It can crawl across the bottom and still be heard. Why fish the puffin crank This puffin hard-body lure is built to create presence when fish are holding low in dirty or stirred-up water. The ideal scenario to fish this bait is when the winds are up and tides are pumping. It also suits times when the water is stirred up or the river is running tannin. The fish will come to you with its bold presence and unfamiliar rattle. Great early techniques found for fishing in shallow water are simple to repeat. Hold a high rod tip and very slowly retrieve with the rod. Add a short, sharp rip, wind up the slack and repeat. This is similar to a drop shot drag.
