Pumpkin Patch Farm Sampler There are so many wonderful small family farms near my home, and over the years I've wanted to stitch some of them into samplers. The Pumpkin Patch Pumpkin Farm is a companion to Babe’s Honey Farm, Ravenhill Herb Farm, Strawberry Fields Farm and Jingle Bells Christmas Tree Farm. This latest Farm Sampler is named after one of the pumpkin farms near where I live on Vancouver Island. Selecting a pumpkin to carve is a fun experience for children and adults alike, and has become a special tradition with many families around both Halloween and Thanksgiving. There’s an art to the day; you must handpick your special pumpkins locally, it must be a crisp fall day, and someone should bring some hot apple cider to take the edge off the chill. A child-friendly farm experience is not complete without first traipsing through a corn maze, smelling the fresh scent of hay on a hayride, carving your pumpkins at the farm with others, or visiting a haunted house! This farm has it all. At the top of the Pumpkin Patch Farm Sampler you’ll find a lovely little white house, surrounded by fall foliage. One farmer is just raking up a few of the leaves, and you can see she’s already placed some of her own pumpkins outside. Lower down you will see several children are picking their own pumpkins, while the chickens and cats look on. Below that the farmer is driving his tractor through the corn fields, with a hay wagon full of happy kids. Finally, at the bottom is a Market Stall, where people can pay for their pumpkins, as some are being brought from the fields to store in the barn. Each of the bands are separated by interesting specialty stitched bands. Parts of this design can be stitched separately, and can be used in many different ways. The top and bottom scenes are both wonderful as stand-alone designs. You could also use some of the motifs for a name tag, greeting card, or pumpkin stitching accessories.
