British punk emerged in 1976, born from SEX - the shop on London’s Kings Road), and it quickly spread - helped by the Sex Pistols and the groups they inspired.Clothing featured rips, fractures and tensions - which captured the darkening mood of the 1970s. Fetishwear became fashionwear; and punk informed everything from music through to design, fashion, artwork, writing and performance.Punk spawned a wide range of alternative independent record labels and fanzines - which influenced the post-punk scenes that exist today.
