The seed itself, whole and untouched. Whole Nigella sativa seeds from the same high-altitude Anatolian harvest as our oil. Small, matt black, sharply aromatic — hand-harvested, cleaned, and nothing else. What it tastes like Toasty and peppery with a faint bitterness, somewhere between oregano, onion seed and black pepper. A minute in a dry pan wakes the aroma up considerably — do that before you use them and you will taste the difference. How to use them Scattered over flatbread, simit, börek or focaccia before baking Stirred through labneh, yoghurt or soft cheese Toasted and crushed into a rub for lamb or aubergine Dropped whole into pickles and brines Sizes 100 g for trying, 500 g for a household that bakes, 1 kg for one that bakes often — or for a kitchen doing it professionally. The bigger the bag, the less you pay per kilo: 100 g — £3.30, or £33.00 per kg 500 g — £9.00, or £18.00 per kg 1 kg — £15.00, or £15.00 per kg Same seed, same harvest, same cleaning. If the 100 g pouch has earned its place in your cupboard, the 1 kg is that seed at under half the rate — ten small pouches would cost you £33.00. Keep them in a sealed jar away from light. Where they come from Contract-grown for us by a small group of growers we work with directly, from a single harvest. Laboratory analysis is available on request.
