Two birds face each other across this panel, each one boxed into its own square frame of purple and gold marbled cloth. Their wings and tails are cut into long bars of magenta, lime, orange, teal and blue, and each has a ringed eye worked with dashed stitching. It measures 17 inches wide by 10.5 inches high.A mola is a hand stitched panel made by the Guna people of Panama, once known as the Kuna. Several layers of colored cotton are stacked, then cut down through one layer at a time so the colors underneath show through, and every raw edge is turned and stitched closed by hand. The technique is called reverse appliqué.
