Purple Coneflower is by far the most popular variety of coneflower. With beautiful purple blooms, this variety is great for pollinators and medicinal uses alike. Native to North America, these plants are hardy, drought-tolerant, and long blooming. The flowers have daisy-like features made up of several small petals. Having a fibrous root system makes it more adaptable to most any garden conditions. Purple Coneflower requires full sun or partial shade; the soil type is best well-drained with a neutral to acidic soil pH. Pruning your coneflowers is always helpful but not necessary, although deadheading the blooms will keep them in bloom all summer long. Seeds tend to germinate best under "cold stratification"; direct sow the Seeds outdoors in the fall. They do tend to thrive in soil with high organic matter, if you fertilize too much they can become "leggy".
