If you want plant-based protein, see Sprout Living Epic Protein or Vega Sport. If you want a meal-replacement-style shake with greens, vitamins, and protein together, Progressive VegEssential is a different category. If you have a severe milk allergy (different from lactose intolerance), avoid whey isolate entirely. If you specifically want whey concentrate at a lower cost and your digestion handles dairy fine, basic whey concentrate works for general protein support. Vitamart's Take PVL IsoGold is a clean whey protein isolate for anyone who's active and wants to get more protein in. It blends three types of isolate, so your body gets protein quickly after exercise and a steady supply after that. PVL adds digestive enzymes and probiotics too, which helps it go down easy if regular protein shakes bother your stomach. It mixes smooth, it's low in sugar and carbs, and it's made right here in Canada. How PVL IsoGold Compares PVL IsoGold vs North Coast 100% Iso Protein PVL IsoGold (this product): Triple-isolate matrix (CFM® + HydroFlow-XP™ + ActiNOS®). Includes digestive enzymes and probiotics. 27 g protein per scoop. Premium-priced. North Coast 100% Iso Protein: Single-source CFM® whey isolate. Cleaner ingredient list. More accessible price point. 27 g protein per scoop. A fit if you want quality whey isolate without the added enzymes and probiotics. PVL IsoGold vs Whey Concentrate PVL IsoGold (Isolate): 90%+ protein purity, very low lactose, no fillers. Fast absorption. Premium positioning. Whey Concentrate: 70-80% protein purity, higher lactose content, lower cost per gram of protein. A fit if you tolerate dairy fine and want the most accessible price point. PVL IsoGold vs Plant Protein (Vega Sport, Sprout Living) PVL IsoGold (whey): Slightly higher leucine per gram (relevant for muscle protein synthesis). Faster absorption. Lower carb profile. Plant Protein: Vegan, dairy-free, often easier on digestion for people with dairy sensitivities. A different protein source entirely — not better or worse, just different. Choose based on diet and digestive preferences. What Is CFM® (Cross-Flow Microfiltered) Whey Isolate? Whey isolate manufacturing comes in a few forms with significantly different end-product quality: Ion-exchange whey isolate: Older process using charged surfaces to separate protein from lactose and fat. Higher protein purity but can denature delicate immunoglobulins. Cheaper to produce. Cross-flow microfiltered (CFM®): Modern membrane filtration process that preserves protein structure, immunoglobulins, and naturally occurring growth factors. More expensive to produce but better-quality end product. Hydrolyzed whey isolate: Pre-digested whey isolate — the proteins are already broken into smaller peptides for faster absorption. Most expensive form. PVL IsoGold uses CFM® as the foundation, then adds hydrolyzed whey isolate (HydroFlow-XP™) for rapid post-workout absorption, and ActiNOS® whey peptide fractions for additional amino acid support. The triple-matrix approach delivers benefits across the absorption timeline rather than relying on a single form. How To Use Adults: Mix 1 scoop (30 g) with 200-300 ml of water, milk, or your preferred beverage. Shake or blend until smooth. Best taken within 30-60 minutes after training for post-workout recovery, or any time of day to support daily protein intake. For most people, 1-2 scoops daily covers protein supplementation needs. Total daily protein intake of 1.2-2.0 g per kg of body weight supports muscle growth and recovery for active adults. Talk to a healthcare practitioner before use if you have kidney disease or a medical condition. Frequently Asked Questions ➕ What's the difference between whey isolate and concentrate? Concentrate is 70-80% protein with more lactose, fat, and carbs. Isolate is 90%+ protein with minimal lactose, fat, and carbs. Isolate costs more but is better for people with mild lactose sensitivity, those targeting lean macros, or anyone wanting the cleanest protein source. IsoGold is 100% isolate. ➕ Will it cause digestive issues? The added Aminogen® digestive enzymes, lactase enzyme (specifically breaks down any residual lactose), and Lactobacillus fermentum probiotics are designed to minimize digestive issues. Most people tolerate IsoGold well even if regular whey concentrate gives them problems. If you have a confirmed milk allergy (different from lactose intolerance), avoid whey entirely. ➕ When should I take it? The classic protocol is 30-60 minutes after training to support recovery and muscle protein synthesis. But research increasingly shows that total daily protein intake matters more than precise timing. Any time of day works if you're using it to hit your daily protein target. ➕ Does the 3 g leucine matter? Yes — leucine is the BCAA most associated with triggering muscle protein synthesis. Research generally supports 2-3 g of leucine per protein dose to maximize the muscle-building signal. IsoGold's 3 g leucine per scoop hits this threshold cleanly. Lower-quality proteins often need a bigger serving to deliver the same leucine. ➕ Is it good for weight loss? The low carb, low sugar, low fat macro profile (130 calories, 27 g protein) makes IsoGold a useful tool for people in a calorie deficit who want to preserve muscle while losing fat. High protein intake supports satiety and helps preserve lean muscle during weight loss. Not a magic weight loss product — just a clean protein source. ➕ What does it taste like? PVL produces multiple flavours. The whey isolate base is naturally cleaner-tasting than concentrate (less of the milky/chalky taste). Most flavour reviews are positive across vanilla, chocolate, and other options.
