This is a Traditional Method Sparkling Shiraz made from 100 % Shiraz fruit grown in the Pyrenees vineyards of Pyren Vineyard, planted by brothers Brian & Kevyn Joy in 1999 and now tended by Leighton Joy and viticulturist Graeme Miles. The “Earthscape” label celebrates the quartz-rich, elevated terrain that shapes the site’s character and energy. Hand-harvested from the most elevated block, the grapes are fermented in open vessels with a high proportion of whole berry fruit before the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle. About 30 % of the wine sees new French and Hungarian oak for several months, followed by extended time on lees in bottle prior to disgorgement, giving both structure and complexity to the finished sparkling red. In the glass it offers vibrant cherry and raspberry fruit, lifted by savoury touches of clove, black pepper and cedar, with powdered cocoa and burnt orange adding depth and richness and soft, fine tannins giving texture.
