Burroughs was an essential Beat poet, artist, and firearm enthusiast who became renown for his book Naked Lunc h, his oddity, and his drug use, all of which earned him cult status. Queer was a novel he wrote before all that, published thirty years after it was written, about a William Lee living in Mexico City in the 1940s and lusting after a man.
