The hemostatic here is QuikClot® 3 in. × 24 in. clotting gauze — a shorter dressing with less packing capacity than Combat Gauze, and not CoTCCC-recommended. ▾Who Carries It Paramedics, physicians, PAs, nurse practitioners and military medics credentialed to use needle decompression and wound-closure instruments under their own medical direction · Prolonged field care roles where evacuation is delayed and definitive treatment falls to the provider on scene, which is what the suture set and hemostats are there for · Tactical and remote-duty providers who want hemorrhage, chest, airway and closure capability in a pouch that opens in one motion. Read this before buying. Three items in this kit sit outside the scope of civilian first aid: the 14-gauge ARS needle decompression device, the suture set and the Kelly hemostats. Needle decompression is invasive and can cause serious injury or death when performed on the wrong patient or at the wrong site, and field suturing of traumatic wounds is rarely appropriate. If you are a prepared civilian, range officer or security professional without that credentialing, choose a kit built around bleeding control instead — several carry stronger hemostatic components with nothing above your scope.
