Beginning with a simple prompt, four independent projects unfold into a vast and layered landscape traversing east to west, from Lawrence, KS, to Joshua Tree, CA. Juxtaposed, they reveal threads that both intersect and stray, weaving a colorful canvas of images and reflections attending to what is essentially common ground–despite, or perhaps because of, all its variations. The photographs with accompanying text put each in conversation with the other, and provide an intimate lens–inviting the reader to inhabit both the physical and psychic space of its authors. As a whole, the book serves as a tribute to place, depicting how we may be as shaped by it, as it is, us. The book concludes with essays from each author detailing their creative process.
