Quincy 471CS80VCBM QT MAX — 7.5 HP Two-Stage, 80 Gallon Vertical, 230V 1-Phase Nearly everything that makes this much air expects a three-phase service. This machine does not. The 471CS80VCBM hangs a 7.5 HP two-stage cast iron pump off ordinary 230V 1-Phase shop power, which is the difference between a compressor you can install next week and one that waits on a quote from the utility company. If your building is single-phase and you have simply run out of air, that one line of the specification is the reason to look at this model rather than a three-phase machine of the same size. The rest is Quincy QT MAX: a slow-turning splash-lubricated pump with cast iron cylinders and an aluminium head, an 80 gallon vertical receiver, a factory-fitted magnetic starter, and an air-cooled aftercooler that takes the heat — and most of the water — out of the air before it leaves the machine. Two things we would rather flag now than have you find later Our own records are not unanimous on two points. We are not going to quietly publish whichever version reads better. The automatic tank drain. The feature list for this unit says it has an automatic tank drain, and the detailed specification block records an electronic drain valve as fitted. A separate specification field in the same record says it is not fitted. Those cannot both be true. If a self-emptying drain matters to your decision — and if nobody in your shop is realistically going to crack a manual drain every single day, it should — ask us to confirm it in writing and we will get the answer from the manufacturer before anything ships. Air delivery. You will notice there is no CFM figure anywhere on this page. That is deliberate: the delivery number in our catalogue record does not agree with the number in the summary we inherited with this listing, and air delivery is the single specification people size a whole shop around. Rather than pick one, tell us what you actually run and we will put the manufacturer's rated delivery at your working pressure in front of you in writing. Will it fit, and will your panel carry it? The receiver stands upright, so the floor space it asks for is modest and height is the dimension to check first. The unit measures 37" front to back, 24" across and 74" tall, and it weighs 720 lb. Measure the doorway and the route as well as the corner it is going into — 74" will clear most roller doors but not every man door with a header, and 720 lb does not go up a step without help. Electrically it wants 230V 1-Phase. Our specification record does not name a breaker size for this build; it says to consult a certified electrician, and that genuinely is the right answer — the correct device depends on the conductor run, the ambient temperature and what else is on that panel. As it cools on its way through your pipework, that moisture condenses, and the water is what rusts lines, ruins paintwork and shortens the life of every tool downstream. An aftercooler is a heat exchanger sitting between the pump and the tank: the air is dropped most of the way back toward room temperature before it enters the receiver, so the water falls out at the machine, where a drain can deal with it, instead of half a shop away in a hose. The practical result is that your filters and any refrigerated dryer you own have far less water to handle, so elements last longer. A separate finned intercooler does a different job between the two pump stages, cooling the air so the second stage is not asked to compress hot gas — less work for the motor, lower discharge temperatures, longer valve life. Two stages, turning slowly, in cast iron Two-stage compression means the air is squeezed twice, with cooling in between, which is how a machine reaches 175 PSI without punishing itself. The pump is cast iron where the loads are, with an aluminium head for heat dissipation, and it is deliberately geared to turn slowly. Slow rotation is unglamorous and it is the main reason the pump is rated at 50,000 hours of life: less rubbing speed, less heat, less vibration and a quieter machine in a room where people are trying to talk. Supporting that are two-piece connecting rods, a low oil protection system with an extra-capacity oil reserve, and a magnetic starter with thermal overload protection on the motor. A clean signed receipt makes a damage claim very hard to win. Warranty The compressor carries a 1 year factory warranty. That extends to Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" coverage subject to the manufacturer's conditions, which normally include buying the correct maintenance kit at the time of purchase and registering the unit promptly — ask us and we will confirm exactly what applies to this model before you order, because the extension cannot be added retrospectively.
