Quincy G214K30HCD — 14 HP Kohler, 30-Gallon Two-Stage Truck-Mount Air Compressor with Electric Start The feature that decides this purchase is a button. The G214K30HCD runs a 14 HP Kohler Command Pro with a 12-Volt starter and a recoil rope kept as a backup, which means the operator starts it from the side of the truck instead of bracing a foot on the deck and pulling. On a service truck that is not a comfort item. It is the difference between a compressor that gets started for a five-minute job and one that gets left off because starting it is a fight. Everything behind the engine is shop-grade rather than contractor-grade: a cast iron two-stage QT pump on a belt drive, a horizontal 30-gallon receiver, and a 100% duty cycle rating, which is to say it is designed to run rather than to rest. Electric start, and the part nobody mentions A 12-Volt start needs 12 volts. The battery and the cable are not supplied with this unit, and that is stated plainly in Quincy's own product information rather than buried by us. In practice most buyers take the feed from the truck's electrical system or from a dedicated battery mounted alongside the compressor, and either way it is an install decision to make before the machine arrives, not after. If you are having the unit fitted by a body builder, tell them; it is a five-minute job at build time and an awkward one later. The recoil starter stays fitted, which matters more than it sounds. A gas engine that can only be started electrically is a gas engine that is dead when the battery is flat, usually at the worst moment. Having both means a flat battery is an inconvenience. Where it goes, and what it weighs Plan for roughly 42" long, 21" wide and 40" tall, and about 502 lbs. On a service body those numbers matter twice over. The footprint has to fit the deck or the compartment, and the weight has to be accounted for in your payload and in where it sits relative to the axle — half a tonne of anything mounted behind the rear axle changes how a truck handles and how much else you can legally carry. Talk to whoever builds or certifies the body about mounting and load distribution before you order. The tank is horizontal, which is the correct orientation for a vehicle: a low, long mass is stable, and it keeps the machine below the line of sight over the deck. It is also the shape that will sit under a canopy. The tank outlet is 1/2". Two more siting points, both about running a petrol engine in the real world. It needs air — enclose it in a sealed compartment and it will run hot and die young. And it produces exhaust, so it is an outdoor machine or a machine used in a well-ventilated space, never a closed workshop or a basement. That is a safety line, not a performance note. What the two-stage pump does for you on a truck Site work is exactly the duty that punishes a single-stage compressor: long runs on impact wrenches and chippers, often in heat, often with the machine sitting in the sun on a steel deck. What is in the box — and what is not Supplied: the complete unit on its horizontal receiver — the 14 HP Kohler Command Pro engine with electric and recoil starting, the two-stage cast iron belt-drive pump with its guard, the intercooler, the air filter, the pressure gauge, the oil sight glass and the tank. Not supplied, and worth planning for: the starting battery and cable, as above; a mounting frame or brackets for your particular body; hose and reel; and any air treatment. If your fleet policy, your insurer or your body certifier has requirements about mounting, guarding or exhaust routing, get those confirmed against your build — the machine's own approvals do not answer that question. Warranty Cover is a 1-year factory warranty, which Quincy extends to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty on its own conditions: the EWK-3 maintenance kit must be purchased with the compressor, and the unit must be registered with Quincy.
