Antique American scrimshaw whalebone desk ruler engraved with THE COURIER - the whaleship Courier sailed from New Bedford in the mid 19th C. The twelve inch ruler has a brass plaqu e engraved with "LIZZY" mounted above a dolphin inspired design. Note the pierced heart shape holes at each end. Very good condition with some aged warping.
