Rahab was a woman living in the city of Jericho who played a crucial role in Israel’s entry into the Promised Land, as recorded in the Book of Joshua. Though she is described as a prostitute, Rahab recognised the power and authority of the God of Israel and chose to act in faith. When Israelite spies came to Jericho, she hid them from the king’s men and helped them escape, declaring her belief that the Lord had given the land to Israel. Because of her faith and courage, Rahab and her family were spared when Jericho was destroyed. She later became part of Israel and is listed in the genealogy of Jesus, as well as commended in the New Testament as an example of faith expressed through action.
