The Artwork Story Ngapa Jukurrpa – Rain Bird Dreaming This beautiful design is adapted from an authentic Aboriginal artwork by Vivienne Nakamarra Kelly, an Aboriginal artist from the world-acclaimed Warlukurlangu Artists art centre at Yuendumu in Central Australia. The artwork depicts Ngapa Jukurrpa, a traditional Warlpiri Water Dreaming story passed down through Vivienne’s family over many generations. The story tells of smoke rising from a fire into the sky, forming a great storm cloud. A bird then picked up the storm on its wings and carried it across the desert Country. When the storm became too heavy for the bird to carry, it fell to the ground as life-giving rain. Through bold colour, flowing lines and rhythmic detail, Vivienne Nakamarra Kelly’s artwork celebrates water, movement, Country and the enduring cultural stories of the Warlpiri people.
