Rainbow Palette Cake – for the artist in all of us Right. This one’s for the painters, the doodlers, the kids who love colours more than anything. It’s shaped like an artist’s palette – you know, the classic kidney shape with a thumb hole – and covered in rainbow dots of buttercream that look like blobs of paint. I got the idea from a little girl in Sydenham who wanted to be an artist when she grew up. Her mum asked for a cake that looked like a palette but tasted like rainbow. So I carved a vanilla cake into the palette shape, then added a rainbow of buttercream dots – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple – and a little paintbrush on the side (made of a biscuit and a chocolate handle). She screamed. That’s a win. What’s in it? Vanilla or lemon sponge – light, because the design is already busy. Carved into a palette shape (hand‑cut, so it’s a bit rustic). Covered in a thin layer of white buttercream, then I pipe little dollops of coloured buttercream – one for each colour of the rainbow. I add a small fondant paintbrush with a chocolate tip, and a few edible rainbow sprinkles. Where to get it I bake these in Bromley. People from Downham, Grove Park, Catford and Bellingham order them for art‑themed parties, kids’ birthdays, or just for little creators. I deliver local, or you can collect from the shop. Who’s buying this? Parents of kids who love painting. Art teachers. Anyone who wants a cake that’s more fun than fancy. And honestly? Anyone who remembers the joy of a new box of crayons. One thing to know The palette shape is hand‑carved – it won’t be perfect like a mould. That’s the charm. The paintbrush is fondant and chocolate – edible, but a bit hard. Kids might want to keep it. The rainbow dots are buttercream, so they’re soft and delicious. Right. That’s the rainbow palette cake.A masterpiece you can eat. No clean‑up required.
