The Ranco E15-2601 is a professional-grade heat pump defrost control designed for field-adjustable management of outdoor coil icing. Operating on 240V with a SPDT switch action, this unit is the direct replacement for the legacy E15-2601-270 model. It utilizes a 60-inch capillary and a 5/16" x 5-1/16" sensing bulb to monitor coil conditions with precision. To prevent short-cycling and protect the compressor, the E15-2601 features a built-in interlock that limits defrost operation to once per selectable timing period. Technicians can configure initiation timing intervals at 30, 45, or 90 minutes, while the termination temperature is adjustable between 55°F and 78°F. The control only permits initiation when the sensing bulb detects temperatures at or below 28°F, ensuring the HVAC defrost cycle only activates when technically necessary for system efficiency. Key Benefits for HVACR Contractors Broad Compatibility: Serves as a versatile replacement defrost board and control for various residential and commercial heat pump applications. Configurable Timing: Field-selectable defrost timer intervals allow for customization based on local climate and frost accumulation rates. Reduced Mechanical Wear: The safety interlock prevents redundant cycles, extending the life of the reversing valve and contactor. Accurate Sensing: The 60-inch capillary provides flexibility for optimal bulb placement on the outdoor coil for precise thermal feedback. Reliable Termination: Adjustable temperature settings ensure the coil is completely cleared of ice before returning to heating mode, maintaining high COP. Common Questions How do I set the initiation interval on the E15-2601? The timing interval is field-selectable using the internal terminal pins, allowing you to choose between 30, 45, or 90-minute frequencies depending on the specific environmental demands of the job site. Can this control replace a standard E15-2601-270 unit? Yes, the E15-2601 is the direct technical replacement for the E15-2601-270, maintaining the same mounting footprint and electrical specifications for a seamless swap. What prevents the unit from defrosting when there is no ice? The control logic requires the sensing bulb to reach 28°F or below; if the coil temperature is above this threshold, the defrost cycle will not initiate regardless of the timer status.
