Rate and Turn With Confidence in Speed Events When you're asking for a pocket turn or setting up for the next barrel, you need a bit that gives clear signals without fighting your horse's mouth. The Professional's Choice Rasp Cheek Bit combines sweet iron with copper inlays to encourage salivation and keep your horse soft and responsive — even when the pressure's on. The 6-inch rasp-style shank delivers balanced leverage for quick rate cues, making this a go-to for barrel racers and gymkhana competitors who need precision without harshness. This bit works especially well as a transition tool for horses moving from a snaffle to a curb. The familiar mouthpiece feel introduces leverage gradually, helping your horse understand the new pressure points without confusion. Built with Professional's Choice durability, this bit is designed to hold up through daily training sessions and weekend competitions alike. Why Riders Choose the Rasp Cheek Bit Encourages a soft, relaxed mouth — Sweet iron with copper inlays oxidizes naturally to taste sweet, promoting salivation and reducing resistance. Clear leverage for speed events — The 6-inch shank provides quick, moderate leverage ideal for rate and turn cues in barrel racing and pole bending. Smooth transition from snaffle — Mouthpiece design maintains a familiar feel while introducing curb pressure, making the step-up less intimidating for younger or greener horses. Improved lateral flexion — Helps you achieve better body control and tighter turns without overcommitting your horse's shoulders. Built for the long haul — Professional's Choice construction means quality materials that stand up to daily ranch work and competitive use. Best For Western speed event riders and trainers looking for a reliable performance bit that balances leverage with a soft, responsive mouthpiece. Frequently Asked Questions Q: Why does the mouthpiece look like it's rusting? That's actually a feature, not a flaw. The Professional's Choice Rasp Cheek Bit uses sweet iron, which is designed to oxidize over time. This oxidation creates a sweet taste that encourages your horse to salivate and stay soft in the bridle. It's a natural process that improves the bit's effectiveness. Q: Is this bit legal for barrel racing competitions? Most Western speed event associations allow leverage bits like the Rasp Cheek, but rules vary by organization. We recommend checking your specific association's equipment rulebook — such as NBHA, WPRA, or AQHA — to confirm current regulations before competing. Q: What size is the mouthpiece on this bit? This bit features a standard 5-inch mouthpiece, which fits the majority of average-sized quarter horses and performance breeds comfortably. If your horse typically needs a larger or smaller mouth size, contact us and we'll help you find the right fit. Q: Can I use this bit on a green horse just starting curb training? Yes — this is an excellent transition bit for horses moving from a snaffle to a curb. The mouthpiece design keeps a familiar feel while introducing leverage gradually, so your horse learns the new pressure cues without confusion or resistance.
