Raspberry ‘Chilliwack’ is a productive summer-fruiting raspberry producing long, firm berries that ripen from red to dark red and have an excellent flavour. A mid-season variety, it generally provides a picking period of around four weeks, depending on summer conditions. As a floricane raspberry, ‘Chilliwack’ produces fruit on canes that grew during the previous season. New canes emerge each year and are retained to produce the following summer’s crop. The berries have a delicious sweet-tart flavour and soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture, making them excellent eaten fresh or used in desserts, cakes, muffins, jams and preserves. ‘Chilliwack’ is also almost completely thornless, making picking and maintaining the canes easier. Mature size: approximately 2 metres high × 1.5 metres wide Care & Growing Tips Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Water consistently during establishment and fruit development, and mulch around the root zone to help retain moisture. After harvest, cut the canes that have fruited back to ground level, leaving the fresh new canes to grow on and produce the following season’s crop. Thin out weak or overcrowded growth and provide a trellis or other support for the long canes.
