Unleash the full potential of your Raspberry Pi by integrating it with LEGO Technic„¢ motors and sensors using the Raspberry Pi Build HAT. Designed to fit any Raspberry Pi model with a 40-pin GPIO header, this versatile HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) allows users to control up to four LEGO Technic„¢ devices from the LEGO Education SPIKE Portfolio. By combining the robust educational possibilities of LEGO with the programmable flexibility of Raspberry Pi, the Build HAT offers an outstanding platform for engaging students in hands-on, creative, and computational learning. This powerful hardware interface is backed by an easy-to-use Python library that supports real-time control, making it ideal for students learning to code, build, and prototype. It's also supported by a suite of guided learning projects from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, crafted especially for secondary school students, and encourages a blend of engineering and coding skills in a practical context. Educational Benefits Encourages STEM learning through hands-on construction and programming Builds logical thinking and sequencing skills with real-time feedback Enhances creativity by merging mechanical builds with code-based control Develops problem-solving and design thinking through iterative testing Ideal for introducing students to physical computing and IoT systems Classroom Ideas Build a robotic arm or automated vehicle using LEGO and Raspberry Pi Create distance-sensing tools or colour-detecting robots with SPIKE sensors Run Python-based coding challenges integrating motors and inputs Use in STEM clubs or maker sessions for collaborative engineering tasks Integrate into digital technologies curriculum for Years 7-10 projects Specifications Compatible with any Raspberry Pi with 40-pin GPIO header (except Raspberry Pi 400) Controls up to four LEGO Technic„¢ motors or sensors Built-in Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller manages LEGO device control Python programming support through dedicated library Power via 2.1mm barrel jack (centre positive); requires external 8V ±10% DC power source Compatible power sources: Raspberry Pi Build HAT Power Supply or 7.5V battery pack Can power both the Build HAT and connected Raspberry Pi devices Ideal for secondary school learners and makers aged 11+
