Basil James (1938 - 2005), born on Gwa'yasdams (Gilford Island), was a member of the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation. His father, Jack James, was also his mentor. To honor his father, B asil James created a totem pole that is displayed in the city of Duncan on Vancouver Island.
