Book Company | Paradise Cay Publication About this product Indigenous artist and storyteller Andrea Fritz presents the story of a greedy raven and a clever little deer who ensures they both have enough food for winter. Smuy, the little deer, is running low on food and wishes that Spaal’, the raven, would share. Despite Smuy’s constant generosity, Spaal’ only ever tricks him in return. So, Smuy devises a new plan. He crushes the last of his stored berries and spreads them over the snow. Spaal’ spots the enticing red snow and asks to try it. Smuy agrees, but this time, he’s prepared for Spaal’s tricks and has a clever trick of his own—one that guarantees both animals will stay warm and fed through winter. Set in Coast Salish Traditional Territory, this Traditional Story by Andrea Fritz weaves Indigenous storytelling and art to celebrate the culture and language of the Hul’q’umi’num’-speaking Peoples. It is the third book in the Coast Salish Tales series, following Otter Doesn't Know and Crow Helps a Friend. Show more
