Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) should not be confused with Ravensara (Ravensara aromatica), even though both are traditionally grown and distilled in Madagascar. Both are also felt to be antiviral. Ravensara oil is often sold under the name Ravensare, and is not commonly used by aromatherapists. It is a harsher oil than Ravintsara, and should not be used on children. Our Madagascar ravintsara oil is higher in cineole and lower in camphor than the camphor oil produced in China and Southeast Asia. It is a good oil for children and may work well together with eucalyptus to bring relief during colds or respiratory congestion.
