A Better Place for the Screen You Use Every Day Some objects spend most of their lives hidden away. Your tablet isn't one of them. The Ray is a modern wooden tablet stand designed for the screen that moves with you through daily life. Whether it’s displaying a favorite recipe, joining a video call with family, showing sheet music or a drawing reference, or holding the next chapter of a good book, it gives your tablet a place that feels just as considered as everything else you’ve chosen to bring into your home. Its continuous bent plywood form holds your tablet at a comfortable viewing angle while celebrating the warmth of natural wood. Even sitting empty, it remains a sculptural object—a quiet reminder that everyday tools deserve thoughtful design, too. Each Ray is handmade in my Leonard, Michigan studio from ten layers of sustainably harvested wood veneer. Every layer is glued, pressed, trimmed, sanded, and finished by hand before receiving a satin oil-and-wax finish that protects the wood while highlighting its natural character. Cork feet keep the stand securely in place and protect the surface beneath. Like every object I design, the Ray wasn't created to follow trends. It was refined through countless prototypes until every curve, angle, and proportion felt inevitable. It also happens to be where Ciseal began—this was the very first object I designed back in 2013, and I'm still using the original mold today.
