Ready, Cassette, Go! by Jarett Sitter is the first book in a middle-grade graphic novel series set in Cassette City, a retro town built around arcades, skate parks, monster movie m arathons, and music on cassette tape. Melody Li arrives with her walls up and her headphones on, and gets pulled into a band of misfits: a wisecracking raccoon, a mushroom who speaks in code, and a robot with very big feelings. They are trying to win the Battle of the Bands, but they argue over the band name, the spotlight, and whether they are in it to win or to have fun, which is most of the point.
