Drought is a challenging time for elephants and it’s often the youngest who are most vulnerable. In the Summer of 2022, Mageno was found collapsed and alone in the dry landscape of Mgeno Ranch. The rescue team got to him just in time as he was in extremely weak condition. They flew him to the Nairobi unit where he received devoted care and slowly recovered. Mageno loves mud baths and dusting himself, here he’s throwing dirt on his head with his trunk to offer protection from insects and the sun and of course a bit of play! Show more
