Course Outline Seat Time: 1hrs This course will introduce the learner to the pervasive and serious issue of elder financial abuse. The course will help to familiarize the learner with the various financial frauds and scams that are most commonly perpetrated on elders. After completing this course, the learner will understand: Why elder financial abuse is such a serious issue. Who most commonly perpetrates elder financial abuse. How to identify the various red flags of financial abuse and how to properly report them. Course Topics T1. Common Elder Financial Abuse Frauds: This topic will teach the learner about the categories of financial abuse and common elder abuse frauds, some of which include identity theft, door-to-door sales fraud, and financial institution employee fraud. T2. Common Elder Financial Abuse Scams: This topic will teach the learner about common elder financial abuse scams, some of which include estate planning scams, auto scams, sweetheart scams, and government grant scams. T3. Perpetrators of Elder Financial Abuse: This topic will inform the learner about the categories and profiles of abusers, statistics regarding elder financial abuse, and financial devices used by abusers. T4. Red Flags of Elder Financial Abuse: This topic will educate the learner about the risk factors for elder financial abuse, non-financial abuse, the types of red flags, including suspicious and atypical transactions, and FinCEN's advisory to financial institutions.
